Spring and fall are the two moments a Michigan landscape resets. In spring the beds get cut back, edged, and re-mulched before the growing season starts. In fall the leaves come off the lawn and out of the beds before they mat down and smother the crowns under snow. Skip either one and the landscape spends the next season catching up.
Fall clean-up is booked heavily from late September. Getting on the schedule early is worth doing.
